Ways to Improve Heart Health

  • Eating more fruits and vegetables
  • Eating more whole grains like brown rice, whole wheat pasta and whole wheat bread. Whole grains include more fiber, which help you feel fuller and pulls out the bad cholesterol
  • Watching portion sizes. Choosemyplate.gov has a great visual on what a healthy plate looks like
  • Watch unhealthy fats such as unsaturated fats found in animal protein. Aim for mono or polyunsaturated fats.
  • Aim for no more than 1,500 mg of salt a day.
  • Aim for 30 mins or more each day of exercise. Pick an activity you enjoy. You are more likely to stick with exercise if you like what activity you are implementing
