Older caregivers may face more isolation as they may have just hit retirement or other family and friends may have passed away. In addition, in a caregiving role the person you are caring for may become financially dependent on your creating both emotional and financial burdens.
It is common in any caregiving role to face self- neglect and burnout. A few signs that you may be experiencing burnout include, irritability, depression, anxiety, feeling tired all the time, difficulty concentrating, sleeplessness, isolation and health problems.
It is important as a caregiver to know the signs and be proactive so that you remain happy and healthy. Here are a few tips for coping with caregiver burnout and stress.

- Stay connected to other family and friends
- Practice healthy habits such as sleeping, healthy eating and exercise.
- Join a support group, especially if there is one related to your loved one’s condition
- Do not be afraid to ask for help
