Relocating and moving can be a source of stress, adjustment and transition. Whether that move is sudden, traumatic or because you finally landed your dream job, there is a sense of loss that comes with starting over. Here are a few things to consider in order to make your move as stress free as possible.

It’s OK to Feel Attached

Take time to recognize that it is normal to feel attached to your home and belongings that your may have to leave behind. Especially if you have lived there for a long time, there are many moments and sentimental values. Take time to cherish the attachment that you had. You may also be leaving behind a community of people and the familiarity of places. It is OK to feel a sense of loss and grieving over this.

Fear of the Unknown

We often fear what we do not know and moving to a new area may leave you feeling anxious about building new relationships and navigating a new environment. This is normal.

Stay Organized

The list of to do’s may seem never ending when you have to move. Be sure to give yourself time and plan ahead for as much as you can. Keep your list of dates, to do’s and contacts during this time in a place that it won’t accidentally get packed away.

Make Time for Goodbyes

If you are moving far away, be sure to make time to spend time with those you are leaving behind. This especially benefits children, so be sure to schedule a few play dates which may even help free up some of your time to check some of your to do’s off your list.

Ask for Help

Moving is no easy feat. Do not be afraid to ask for help if you need it or pay for the help if you can afford it.
