While it is the employer's responsibility to have a healthy work environment, it is your responsibility to set the appropriate boundaries to balance time spent at work and time spent at home with your family. Families who spend quality time together show positive child development, overall healthiness for each family member, and better interaction and communication with each other.
Family time can be done in three ways:
- Structured-Planning: this includes a planned family activity
- Child-Centered: this includes having a heart-to-heart talk with a child
- Time- Available: this includes any time spent with family while at home.
Ideas for fun activities and quick tricks when you are short on time include:
- Volunteering
- Schedule a family vacation
- Cooking
- Go to a local sports game
- Tour a local police/fire station
- Do fun cab workouts with your kids
- Try an escape room
- Go for a family walk/hike
- Eat at the dinner table (maybe share some of the healthy tips you've learned while on the road!)
- Have screen-free time at home
