It can be challenging when trying to find the right diet to keep you and your heart healthy.  Finding the right food can be difficult with all the good and bad food choices available to you. However, this might be a good starting point. Look at what you are eating throughout the day and pinpoint what small healthy changes you can make to improve your current diet.

The combination of a healthy diet and regular exercise could get your heart healthy in no time!

Inundating your diet with foods high in omega 3 and fiber can help you combat or prevent heart disease. If you are currently being treated by your healthcare professional for high blood pressure, incorporating these foods into your daily diet can lower your blood pressure and reduce weight gain. Eating such foods can also keep your blood sugar levels balanced.

Now, let's take a look at a few ways you can improve your heart health through your meals:

  • Aim for a colorful plate by adding more fruits and veggies.
  • Try using low sodium spices for your seasoning.
  • Limit sodium intake to 1500mg daily,
  • Limit sugary drinks, red meat and sweets.
  • Eat foods high in omega 3 foods like baked fish, poultry, whole grain foods, legumes and nuts.

Turn your meals into healthy, delicious, colorful tasty food while improving your heart health.

Now let’s look at couple of tips to physically keep your heart healthy. If you are a smoker, you might want to strongly consider quitting and become more physically active. According to the American Heart Association, moving for about 150 minutes a week is a good starting point for improving your heart health. Moving roughly 20 minutes a day can fend off strokes, heart attacks and lower high blood pressure.  Making a few changes in the food you eat and taking a daily walk could potentially save your life.
